Coaching primarily looks towards future goals and how to achieve them, while therapy often examines past experiences and their impact on present behavior. Coaching often involves providing guidance and support to help individuals overcome obstacles and reach their potential, while therapy may involve deeper emotional work to address underlying issues. People seek coaching to improve performance, achieve goals, and for personal growth. While people seek psychotherapy when experiencing emotional distress like anxiety or depression, or are dealing with past traumas.
If our collaboration begins as a coaching relationship, in most cases the answer is no. If there is a need for mental health support, I will suggest you seek a professional mental health provider. If I am currently working with you as a therapist and you would like to use my coaching services, let me know. We can utilize coaching techniques as part of your therapy. If we are no longer working together as therapist and client, then yes it is possible we can have a coaching relationship. Contact me and let's talk about it.
Life coaching is a collaborative partnership between a coach and a client, designed to help the client achieve specific personal and professional goals. I may suggest certain things, but the client sets the pace and directs what "homework" they want to commit to.
If you are coming in for a single session, then we can talk about ways you can hold yourself accountable and create a plan. If you are coming in for a series of sessions, then accountability happens as a natural part of the coaching process as we evaluate each meeting how progress is being made. If you are on my year long program, I can also check in with you between sessions. In all cases we work to find an accountability plan that works best for you.
